Letter from Evans Elementary Principal, Gabe D'Archangelo

Welcome to the Evans Elementary School website! My name is Gabe D’Archangelo and I am thrilled to be the principal of this school and to have the privilege of working with a talented, dedicated staff and a supportive parent community that wants the best for their children.
Evans Elementary School is a dynamic and energetic place to work, learn, and play. Our staff are educational leaders in different areas of the curriculum. They are student-focused and continuously work on developing a learning environment where each child has the opportunity to think, to learn, to seek answers, to be creative, and to grow into a well-rounded, independent, respectful citizen who will strive to achieve his/her personal best. In short, our commitment is to the “Whole Child.”
The responsibility for providing an environment where each child is supported and encouraged to strive for excellence is both challenging and rewarding. As a school staff, we all work together as a team with a common vision, but, the success of our efforts is ultimately determined with how well we work and communicate with our parents and the community. Having open lines of communication where we are all part of the “same team” is critical for developing a school culture that is caring, supportive and welcoming.
Our school welcomes parents as partners in their children’s learning and we continue to work with other partner groups for the betterment of our students. In 2007, we were fortunate to have forged a partnership with Wind and Tide Preschool. Their emphasis on academics in a warm, caring, supportive environment, has allowed children that are three and four years of age to take ownership of our school before entering Kindergarten. It has also allowed our staff to work closely with the preschool staff to ensure those children entering Kindergarten have every opportunity to succeed once they begin their educational journey. In 2008, we began to work with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chilliwack, who have started a wide range of programs at our school: In-School Mentors provide one-to-one support for those students who are in need of a role model; Peer Leaders guide our Grade 6 girls through an 8 week program ("Go Girls") building self-esteem skills and preparing them for social challenges found in Middle School; Counter Staff from Starbucks Coffee on Luckakuck Avenue, volunteer their time one day per week supporting a small group of our students in a relaxed after-school atmosphere (Starbucks Study Buddies). Our parent community is one that is supportive, encouraging and caring. Their children's success is their first priority and under the direction of a dedicated PAC Executive, work tirelessly to ensure our staff has all the resources necessary to ensure that each child has the opportunity to succeed. Exciting times are part of the Evans learning environment and I am thrilled to be a participant in this journey.
In closing I encourage all of you to continue to be actively involved in your child’s education. Please feel free to share your ideas and suggestions with us as together we strive to create a learning environment that continues to strive for excellence and always puts the needs of our students first.
Sincerely,
Gabe D'Archangelo
